FUJIFILM FINEPIX S5 PRO: Based on Nikon camera systems but featuring Fujifilms own image sensor and processing engine, the FinePix S5 Pro is a pro model featuring 6.17 million high-sensitivity S pixels and 6.17 million low-sensitivity R pixels for extended dynamic range, film simulation modes, Face Detection Technology and more. Its aimed at wedding and studio photographers and can be operated in tethered mode via optional software. Estimated Street Price: $1,899.
NIKON D80: Nikons D80 is a 10.2-megapixel midrange model with color-independent preconditioning prior to A/D conversion for better color and 0.16-second startup, 3-fps shooting, i-TTL flash, in-camera slideshows with transitions and lots more. Estimated Street Price: $924.
SONY DSLR A-100: Priced like an entry-level model as of this writing, Sonys DSLR-A100 is a midrange model that combines an excellent feature set with very good performance and built-in sensor-shift image stabilization and sensor-dust remover. It can use a wide range of Minolta Maxxum-mount lenses as well as Sony lenses. Estimated Street Price: $699.
CANON EOS 5D: The lowest-priced full-frame D-SLR, Canons EOS 5D is a 12.8-megapixel model on the cusp between midrange and pro. Many pros use it for its high image quality and relatively low cost. It can shoot up to 3 fps. Estimated Street Price: $2,799.
NIKON D2Xs: Nikons top-of-the-line pro model, the 12.4-megapixel D2Xs features 5 fps shooting (8 fps at 6.7 megapixels in High Speed Crop mode), instant startup and minimal 37-millisecond shutter lag, multiple-exposure capability, wireless capability and much more. Estimated Street Price: $4,245.
LEICA DIGILUX 3: The 7.5-megapixel Digilux 3 puts Leicas mark on the Four Thirds System D-SLR. This midrange model combines classic styling with a live-view LCD monitor, sensor-dust remover, up to 3 fps shooting, compatibility with all Four Thirds System lenses and more. Estimated Street Price: $2,499 with 14-50mm Leica lens.
